Election Literacy

Election work is the easiest programme for an organisation to compromise itself with, so ours is deliberately narrow: process, not persuasion.

What sessions cover

• How the electoral roll works, and how to check, correct, or add an entry
• What identification is accepted at a polling station
• What the model code of conduct restricts, and who enforces it
• How to report an irregularity, and to which authority
• Accessibility entitlements for elderly and disabled voters

What sessions never cover

We do not endorse or oppose any party or candidate, do not evaluate manifestos, and do not comment on who should win. Facilitators state this at the opening of every session, and a session that starts drifting towards partisanship is stopped.

This is not neutrality for its own sake. An organisation that teaches accountability loses the standing to do so the moment it is seen as a campaign vehicle.

Timing

Voter literacy runs seasonally, ahead of polls, and is paused during periods where activity could reasonably be read as campaigning.

Working with institutions

Where election authorities run their own voter awareness efforts, we support rather than duplicate them, and we point participants to official information as the authoritative source.
